Activities Manager at Mount Cook
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Purpose:
The Activities Manager will have overall management responsibility for activitystaff, activities, equipment, alongside client safety and enjoyment via theactivities on offer. They will be responsible for inducting and training activitystaff, maintaining all associated equipment and ensuring that the Centre iscompliant with relevant legislation.

The Activities Manager is integral to the organisation and ensures Mount Cook provide a valued quality offer.
Responsibilities and Duties
▪ Ensure we have sufficient trained staff to meet the Centre programme requirements through appropriate rota management.
▪ Deliver activities as required.
▪ Develop, record and maintain a quality staff induction programme.
▪ Develop, record and maintain a schedule of equipment maintenance.
▪ Develop, record and maintain a staff competence framework for the Centre’s activity offer.
▪ Ensure we have risk assessments for all our activities offered and update them annually.
▪ Monitor incident report forms and attend monthly Health and Safety meetings
▪ Maintain and develop the Adventure Activities License.
▪ Ensure we have operating procedures for all our activities offered and update them annually.
▪ Work with the Bookings Team to ensure that staff are appropriately assigned to meet client programme needs.
▪ Utilise “Paper Trail” & “Cinolla” to record maintenance schedules, staff qualifications and rotas.
▪ Line manage and lead all activity staff and ensure they are appropriately developed, and challenged within their roles.
▪ Conduct daily pre-activity and post activity briefs/debriefs to monitor staffing, any health &safety concerns, quality of programme, weather, client needs, any issues, etc.
▪ Mentor the apprenticeship cohorts ensuring that they meet their programme requirements.
▪ Ensure that reviewing and education is an integral element of all activities.
▪ Work with the Senior Management Team to develop the activities and equipment on offer.
▪ Liaise with clients on a daily basis to ensure customers’ expectations are being met.

The Ideal Candidate
1. Strong regulatory knowledge of the outdoor sector, including AALA, Adventure Mark, PPE requirements and Learning Outside the Classroom.
2. Holds a range of NGB qualifications from the following areas: Rock Climbing, Hillwalking/Mountaineering, Canoeing/Kayaking/Watersports, Archery, Bushcraft, High Ropes, Caving, Orienteering.
3. Management skills and experience to be able to effectively manage a team of activity staff efficiently, and the ability to inspire, enthuse and create a fun environment for the staff team whilst instilling a strong culture of safety.
4. An understanding of the concept of Learning in the Outdoors for school children and how activities for school children can support the school curriculums and Ofsted outcomes.
5. Strong experience of delivering outdoor activities to groups in a range of settings with a range of different types of groups:
▪ School children
▪ Apprentices/Graduate
▪ Adult groups
▪ Corporate
▪ Groups with additional needs
6. The postholder will require a level of fitness to be able to safely lead groups in all conditions and to support the maintenance of fixed outdoor activities on site.
