Biography
Patterdale Hall is a Residential Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre owned and managed by Bolton School, but available to everyone.
We are an AALA licensed activity and residential learning centre available for hire by all groups. We are based at the Southern end of Lake Ullswater within easy reach of population centres in both the North West and North East of England, and we have also welcomed clients from throughout the rest of the UK and overseas. We offer a fully catered service for up to 70 clients, although are willing to talk to any group no matter how small, and will tailor-make an activity programme should you require it. All our activities take place on the doorstep of the centre with no need to travel in minibuses and waste valuable time. We are ideally located with natural crags and a 7 mile long lake all within easy reach on foot from the centre. Our 80 acres of extensive grounds allow access straight onto the Lakeland fells for walking, mountaineering and so much more. We have an adventurous gorge that flows through the grounds of the estate.
Residential
The Centre
Patterdale Hall provides spacious facilities for group residentials while retaining many of the building’s Victorian features. We specialise in providing competitively priced, fully catered accommodation, with an outdoor activity package if required, for up to seventy people.
The Centre is located at the heart of an 80 acre site with rolling lawns, beautiful gardens, woodland and stunning views from every direction. We also have an adventurous gorge that flows through the grounds of the estate.
Our extensive grounds allow access straight onto the Lakeland fells for walking and mountaineering and easy access to Ullswater for a plethora of water activities.
The Accommodation
Our accommodation consists of two wings; each wing is able to sleep approximately 30 guests in dormitory style bedrooms. The sleeping accommodation can be arranged in a number of ways to cater for the gender composition of the group in residence. Both the Wings have recently been refurbished and now have an additional 4 en suite bedrooms with their own toilet, sink and shower, adding a further 8 beds to our accommodation.
The majority of our sleeping accommodation is in dormitory style rooms with bunk beds. A range of room sizes are available, sleeping from 4 to 9 people per room. The North and South wings also each contain an en-suite staff / leaders room. Please see the Room Plan in the Useful Documents section for further detail.
Catering & The Dining Room
During your stay with us you will be fully catered for. We supply three meals a day consisting of a cooked breakfast, evening meal, and a sandwich or packed lunch depending on the nature of your programme. Our menu is designed to suit the group in residence in terms of type of food and quantity. For those who want a little extra, there are always tea and coffee making facilities available in the small group lounge. The catering team at the hall are adept at catering for a variety of special diets for those with food allergies or intolerances.
Centre Facilities
The centre has many other facilities that are available to guests for residentials; ask us and we probably have it or can arrange it for your stay. There is a games room with pool and table football. A classroom can be made available on request. We also have televisions, DVD and video players. Aa data projector, OHP and photocopier can be made available if required. Tell us what you need the centre for and we will ensure that it is set up for maximum usefulness to you.
Activities
At Patterdale Hall we can offer a full range of outdoor activities, all based onsite and within easy reach of our front door. We have access to three local crags, boathouses where the kayaks, canoes and sailing dinghies are kept, and the grounds where the ropes course, gorge and archery range are all just by a short walk from the Hall.
Whilst it is more normal for us to provide activities to groups that are residential at the Hall, it is possible for us to also provide activities for non residential groups, and also on occasion to provide activities at alternative venues.
Groups that are residential at Patterdale Hall are, of course, welcome to organise all or part of their own programme, but please be aware that the Patterdale Hall AALS licence only covers programmes organised and run by Patterdale Hall. Outdoor equipment is not normally available to groups undertaking their own programmes.
