Rebellious research and what it means for outdoor therapy: An example projectfrom (un)academia
Host: Andy Hardie
There are many ways to measure impact, or inquire into an issue you're working with. Sometimes it's hard to know which ways are right for your service, project, or report. You want to respect your participants, their voices, their story; and offer something of depth to inform a wider conversation. You want to evidence that *some*thing happened, but what happens is sometimes almost impossible to adequately articulate through traditional methods! You may also be interested in the outcomes of a study that attempts it. This session will explore an piece of research that embraces unconventional methodologies to explore the entanglements between topics of poverty and deprivation, connection to nature and mental health. It will describe the research process and underlying thinking that could be considered 'rebellious'. Considering these post-qualitative approaches will lead us to discussions about what was (not) found in the project that included work with participants in an outdoor setting, exploring their experiences using Arts Based Methods. Please come ready to participate in this dialogue.
Ideal for: anyone with an interest in research, monitoring, evaluation or academic study in the area of OT. Also people who are interested in hearing research findings from a study relating to people living in 'deprived' communities, experiences of nature, and it's links to mental health.
