YHA Edale Activity Centre are looking to recruit Seasonal Instructors for the 2025 season.
Founded in 1986, we are a well-established activity provider in the heart of the Peak District National Park, located in an inspirational setting nestled on the shoulder of Kinder Scout. We deliver adventurous activities to residential groups year-round, working with a broad range of clients. As a not-for-profit organisation, the YHA funds breaks for groups from diverse backgrounds, in line with our charitable objectives.
We have an exciting opportunity for individuals who are eager to contribute to life-changing experiences for our clients. Seasonal Instructors will join our experienced and motivated team in delivering adventurous activity packages.
What can YHA offer you?
Currently, we pay £26,277 pro rata, based on a 42.5-hour full-time contract. The Seasonal Instructor role is a 25+ hours per week fixed term contract from late March – mid-November 2025. This will then rise to £28,333 upon gaining Qualified Instructor status (qualified in 3 out 4 core NGBs plus D1+E) Pay is to be reviewed in line with any new National Living Wage increases.

What will you be doing as a Seasonal Instructor?
Instructors work with a breadth of school, further education, youth, adult and family groups, including participants with disabilities and additional needs. We deliver bespoke programmes of on-site and off-site activities, and Instructors are trained to deliver across water, rock and rope-based activities. Technical skills and group experience are accelerated as a result.
Instructor responsibilities:
Delivering best practice by adhering to YHA standards, risk assessments and relevant external regulations. You will balance the need for safety with creating optimal learning outcomes through genuinely challenging and adventurous activities.
Tailoring activities to meet the unique needs of diverse groups. We pride ourselves on inclusivity. By reviewing activities and proactively encouraging feedback from groups and leaders you will promote engagement, service improvements and business retention.
Ensuring that all equipment is used appropriately, logged recorded and maintained to the highest standard to ensure functionality and availability, reporting any faults or damage.
This role requires evening, weekend and bank holiday working – all on a rota basis.
What skills and experience do you need?
Candidates require:
- Prior proven group experience (voluntary or paid) in adventurous outdoor activity delivery.
- A valid 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid certificate.
- A car driving license is held for a minimum of two years.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Paddlesport Instructor and PSRC
- Ideally training/assessment in at least one of the qualifications listed below:
- Rock Climbing Instructor
- Paddlesport Leader (or equivalent)
- Local Cave Leader
- A D1 entitlement and HML/ML qualification (or equivalent) is advantageous.
