Are you a Freelance outdoor instructor looking to fill your diary in beautiful Dorset? We’ve got the perfect freelance job for you. At Land & Wave, we’re all about real adventures on the Jurassic Coast, and we’re searching for experienced, energetic freelance instructors to join our very busy periods in Swanage and/ or Portland.

If you’re a seasoned freelancer looking for a new adventure challenge, or an experienced instructor looking to launch your freelance career, we can offer solid blocks of work to get your diary filled. Put your qualifications to good use while soaking up the sun and sea air.

Here’s what your summer as a Land & Wave freelancer could look like:

  • Leading sea kayaking tours to Old Harry Rocks
  • Taking groups coasteering to stunning coastal venues
  • Rock climbing on limestone cliffs
  • Paddleboarding on seas, rivers, and lakes
  • Teaching bushcraft skills (fire lighting, venison butchery, wild game prep)
  • Guiding amazing Jurassic Coast expeditions
  • Introducing kids to adventure for the first time

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead creative activity sessions 
  • Be a role model for new instructors to the industry 
  • Plan engaging adventure activities—make it your own!
  • Expand your leadership skills and grow in your career

Skills & Qualifications We’re Looking For As an experienced Freelance Instructor, solid people skills are essential. We’re looking for a mix of qualifications so you can be deployable across a range of activities.

We need someone who’s great at leading groups, solving problems, and motivating others. You need to be a self-starter and happy to get stuck in from the offset. Being warm, friendly, and ready for a challenge will fit right in with our team.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • RCI Assessment 
  • Paddlesport Leader 
  • D1 minibus licence and CPC
  • Lowland Leader Award (or equivalent)
  • NWSMP 
  • Coasteering NCC Guide 
  • Bushcraft Instructor NCFE Level 2 / 3 or equivalent
  • DofE Supervisor / Assessor
  • SUP Coastal Leader/Coach
  • Sea Kayak Leader Training/Canoe Leader Training
  • RLSS Beach Lifeguard and/or SLS Surf Lifeguard
  • Own transport
