General purpose:
This role will support the Sailing School Manager to deliver a range of high quality watersports at Rutland Sailing at Rutland Sailing Club. As well as their general responsibilities, the post holder will have particular responsibility for overseeing the watersports delivery including ensuring the Sailing School operations are both safe and compliant with relevant Club policies and governing body requirements, also that watersports equipment is maintained to a high standard.
In addition, this role will deputise for the Sailing School Manager in their absence
Key deliverables:
- Support the Sailing School Manager in developing and delivering a programme of water based activities for Members, public, schools, corporate and other groups, working in accordance to RYA Guidelines, tailoring objectives to specific groups and abilities
- Undertake safety/rescue boat cover and ensure safety of the public at all times
- Ensure the fleet of boats and other craft are well maintained and fit for purpose at all times.
- Support the Sailing School Manager in delivering Dinghy hire bookings ensuring correct allocation of equipment to provide an excellent customer experience
- Ensure the premises are kept clean, tidy and well maintained
- Support the Sailing School Manager in maintaining an inventory and inspection record for all equipment
- liaise and Maintain a good working relationship with our partners
- Support the smooth operation of Rutland Sailing School and Rutland sailing Club with overlapping duties
- Assist the Sailing School Manager with general admin tasks including emails, bookings, rosters, telephone conversations
- Ensure appropriate cash handling procedures are followed including operating and interrogating electronic point of sale equipment, processing cash/card transactions and cash reconciliation
- Promote a safe and enjoyable learning environment and encourage repeat business
- Report any safety hazards and incidents/accidents to the Sailing School Manager
- Development and Mentoring of Instructional staff
- Assist Bosun with general maintenance and winter maintenance programme
Requirements – experience:
- Proven experience of work in a watersports/activity centre environment
- Experience of delivering watersports and activities to a wide range of audiences, including children and vulnerable adults, following appropriate safety and safeguarding practises
- Experience of boat maintenance and inventories
- Excellent customer care skills
- Ability to support the sailing School Manager in leading and motivating a team of seasonal watersports and activity instructors, maintaining positive and enthusiastic working relationships, high levels of productivity and a customer focused service
- Basic IT skills

- RYA First Aid/First Aid at Work
Desirable:
- Any other relevant RYA Qualifications
- First aid Instructor
- SRC/VHF Instructor Requirements

- A passion for windsports
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with diverse groups of people
- Ability to prepare and delivery engaging training and presentations
- Able to carry out risk assessments for activities involving children and members of the public.
- Ability to maintain and repair a wide range of watersports equipment.
- Positive, enthusiastic and customer-focused approach
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Other Information:
- 40 hours per week Annualized this includes weekend and evening working on a rota basis.

Club Context:
One of the largest inland sailing clubs in the UK with over 1500 members. A full
racing and training programme for the full range of boats from Optimists to 27 foot
Keelboats plus an extensive open meeting and external training programme.
Recognised as an RYA Training Centre and OnBoard Club.
The Club has its own in-house sailing school operating year round offering commercial RYA courses and training for members and fleets. The sailing school also provides ‘Club Pro’ support for member activities.
Facilities on site include a workshop, extensive club house with bar, catering, accommodation facilities, training rooms and chandlery.
