Hours: Variable hours including some weekend work which equates to 40 per week
Season: Late January 2025 – Late November 2025
Reporting to: Outdoor Activities Manager
Pay: £25,376 pro rata per annum
About the role
Are you passionate about the outdoors? Would you love to inspire and challenge young people whilst working for a fabulous eco-friendly outdoor centre on the edge of the Peak District?
If so, there is an exciting opportunity for a seasonal Outdoor Activity Instructor for the 2025 season, starting in late January 2025.
Mount Cook offers a wide range of exciting, engaging outdoor activities on site including high ropes, via ferrata, bushcraft, climbing, archery and a wide selection of team activities. It is also just off the High Peak Trail within walking distance of Black Rocks and Harborough Rocks and very close to Carsington Reservoir.
The successful candidate will have some experience of working with young people in an outdoor setting and ideally qualifications in high ropes and/or climbing and/or archery. However, Mount Cook do offer internal training and there may be opportunities for external training.
Affordable accommodation is available with this role, walking distance from the centre.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and in line with the requirement of the current immigration and asylum legislation, all applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Job Purpose:
To deliver high quality outdoor activities both on and offsite to a wide range of groups at Mount Cook Adventure Centre.
To assist with Centre maintenance when not delivering outdoor activities.

Duties and responsibilities:
1. To deliver a high-quality and enjoyable learning experience to visiting groups, ensuring that agreed service standards and outcomes are met.
2. To contribute to the continuing development of the activities delivered both on and offsite (currently most activities are onsite).
3. Be prepared to continually improve own skills to support the development of the Centre’s standards and offer.
4. To contribute to other areas of group management where required.
5. To participate in internal staff development and the continuous improvement programme within the Centre.
6. Assist with the maintenance and construction of activity equipment.
7. When required, assist with other operations within the organisation.
8. Be prepared to work flexibly including weekends and overnights (occasionally) which is typical of an outdoor residential centre.
