Hours of Work: A minimum of 24 hours per week which will include evenings and weekends

Responsible To: The Operations Manager

 

DofE Background:

The Duke of Edinburgh programme helps young people from every possible background to broaden their horizons, develop their leadership skills, learn to work with others, volunteer in their local communities, increase their employability, and prove to themselves they can succeed at a serious challenge. As an Operating Authority BAC holds the Licence to deliver DofE Programmes and support DofE Centres within Northern Ireland.

 

DofE Manager:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a DofE Manager within Belfast Activity Centre. The DofE Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the DofE programme within Belfast Activity Centre and other Open Award Centres which operate under the Centres Licence. This post would suit someone who can have flexible working hours, has an interest in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme and delivering outdoor activities associated with the DofE. The DofE Manager will perform a vital role on behalf of BAC and will ensure that The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is operated in accordance with the terms of the Licence agreement. The DofE Manager will ensure the delivery of high-quality programmes to DofE groups/Centres and co-ordinate the planning and administration of the DofE programme associated with being a Licenced Organisation.

 

The key tasks of the role are:

YOUNG PEOPLE

• Ensure the delivery of high-quality programmes and identify opportunities for increased participation.

• Manage the provision of a safe and enjoyable DofE programme for participants.

• Verify participants awards and issue badges and certificates on completion.

• Arrange suitable opportunities where applicable to celebrate young people’s DofE achievements.

• Purchase participation places for BAC and other Centres.

• To be the “first port of call” for any concerns participants may have about completion of their Award on the DofE record system.

• Manage the Centres eDofE database to ensure all participants records are kept up to date and to take whatever action is necessary to sustain and improve performance byparticipants.

 

DofE CENTRES

• To meet with the Co-Ordinators from each Centre on a bi-annual basis to ensure they are operating under the Award and BAC’s terms and conditions.

• Authorise, manage and set up sufficient DofE groups to ensure access to a DofE programme for all participants who wish to take part.

• Manage and support Centre Co-ordinators and their Leaders – support them in their roleand ensure they have undergone appropriate training.

• Use eDofE to actively manage DofE groups.

• Ensure all centres are complying with their Service Level Agreement and DofE licence.

 

GENERAL

• Use eDofE to support the delivery and management of DofE within the Licensed Organisation.

• To adhere to and carry out all relevant aspects of the Centres Health and Safety policy.

• Undertake any training required.

• To work within a budget and communicate clearly with the finance team regarding expenditure.

• Support centres with funding applications offered to them by the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

 

EXPEDITIONS

• Plan expeditions to ensure their safe and efficient running.

• To process expedition notification forms from centres and ensure routes are meeting the expedition requirements.

• Provide training to Centres in relation to each of their needs.

• To act as a supervisor or assessor on expeditions where required, including the supervision to and from the expedition.

• Managing resources to ensure successful expeditions.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

• Qualification and experience in training and delivering the expedition module for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

• Hold a Mountain Leader Award and a valid First Aid Certificate

• PCV licence with CPC card for driving a minibus or commitment to obtain within 6months of appointment

 

Desirable

• Minimum of 2 years proven experience of working within a Youth and Community setting or adventure activities

• Good team worker and team leader

• Knowledge of IT systems including PowerPoint, Microsoft Word and Excel

• It will be the responsibility of the post holder to ensure continuing personal awareness of current issues and to identify consequent training requirements in the areas of their responsibility.
