Plas Pencelli is in the Brecon Beacons National Park and specialises in a wide range of offsite traditional outdoor activities (Rock Climbing, Caving, Canoeing, Gorge Walking, Mountain Walking, Mountain Biking etc). This exciting and rewarding post is ideal for someone pursuing a career in Outdoor Learning. Progression to lead groups on activities is possible, depending on qualifications, experience, aptitude, and opportunity. This is an amalgamation of voluntary work, assisting Instructors and paid work consisting of one day a week site work and overnight security duties on a rotational basis. You will be well supported in your role by experienced colleagues.

Details

  • Annual salary of approximately £8000 based on one day a week site work and overnight security duties. There is an expectation of occasional paid overtime assisting support staff.
  • Onsite board and accommodation in a private room within a shared Assistant flat.
  • 28 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays). Also lieu time system.
  • Issue of specialist personal outdoor equipment.
  • Relevant statutory training such as first aid, food hygiene etc.
  • Training and support in relevant outdoor activities including the acquisition of NGB Awards, where appropriate.
  • Loan of outdoor equipment for personal use.
  • Professional support.

Person Specification

  • Ideally pursuing a career in outdoor learning.
  • A keen interest in outdoor activities and working with young people.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Should be reliable, hardworking and be of a positive disposition.
  • Must be comfortable engaged in day long outdoor activities assisting others.
  • Able to act as a role model for young people.

Job role

  • Assisting Outdoor Leaders deliver programs of outdoor education.
  • Supervising young people in the dining room.
  • Assisting with the induction of visiting groups.
  • Assisting with the running of evening activities on a rotational basis.
  • Undertaking one day a week on site maintenance.
  • Undertaking overnight security duties on a rotational basis.
