Southern Conference Report
We had our annual conference in November, which was held at Wellington College, Crowthorne. The theme of the conference was Sustainability in the Outdoors. The key note talk was delivered by Robbie Nicol from Edinburgh University. This was well received and people appreciated an informed delivery on the subject which seemed to be easily applicable to the every day workings of the outdoor industry. We also had various workshops on behaviour management, bush craft, working with disabled groups and various NGB representatives. There was no change to the roles within the southern area committee however we would like to welcome Mike Watson from the Adur Activity Centre and Chris Millbank onto the committee.
- Training Opportunities for Outdoor Practitioners in the South. Following the conference we are planning for organisations in the region to be hosting training opportunities for outdoor practitioners. The subjects we are looking to delivery are management behaviour, working with disabled groups and low rope courses. If members would like to host training for their staff and people within their locality and/or have an idea for other relevant subjects then please contact mike@releasingpotential.com and we can make arrangements.
We would welcome ideas which would help us to serve the outdoor community within the South East, please do not hesitate to contact the committee either via central IOL office or email Mike on the above address.

IOL wish to support and encourage the training and development of all practitioners in the Southern region. One of the many ways we can do this is by helping centres to fill spaces on their in-house training programmes, such as BCU training, by advertising on this region website (see also the IOL national courses/events webpage)
If you have any training courses coming up in the new year for which you would like us to help fill the spaces then please email the general regions email below. This will then be forwarded to the Chair who will contact you to discuss further before putting on the website.
If there are any other ways that we can support your training and development needs please do not hesitate to let us know.
