Job Title:  Instructor.

Responsible to:  Chief Instructors / Activities Manager / Head of Centre.

Location: Pembroke dock

Job Purpose     
To deliver a range of outdoor activities which are part of courses or programmes that form the activity business of the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre.

 

Tasks and  Responsibilities

  1. To always remain mindful of Princes trust’s aims regarding young people

 

  1. To adhere to risk assessments and operating procedures.

  1. To support the centres permanent, seasonal, freelance and voluntary instructors to develop their communication, reviewing and other essential team building and ‘soft’ skills  as well as their NGB and In House qualifications, in line with the centre’s business needs.

 

  1. To deliver activities/ programmes, as lead or assistant instructor according to qualifications and course requirements, to the highest possible standards of quality.

  1. To take a leading role in appropriate use, storage and maintenance of all equipment to recognised levels of safety including the maintenance of inspection records.

 

  1. To support the development of the Centre in conjunction with other staff to help ensure a high level of quality and provision of a wide variety of courses.

  1. To assist in marketing of the activity courses by up selling to customers at every opportunity.

 

Context of the Work

You will work on a wide variety of courses and programmes.  It is interesting and responsible work and will frequently complement the work of other staff working for the Prince’s Trust and a range of partner organisations.  In this respect you are a core part of a much wider organisational team.

  • Additional NGB awards in a range of outdoor activities.
  • Experience of ropes courses, coasteering, problem solving and teambuilding courses

 

Experience:

 

 

 

  • Minimum 2 years experience of leading outdoor activities
  • Experience of working in an outdoor environment with a wide range of groups and individuals.
  • Personal experience which demonstrates an enthusiasm for the activities.
  • Experience which demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions in the outdoor environment.

 

  • High personal proficiency in one or more of the outdoor disciplines.
  • Working with young people with challenging behaviour.

 

Knowledge

 

 

 

  • A good knowledge of outdoor activity NGB’s and instructor standards
  • Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety standards
  • Knowledge of a range of outdoor activity programmes and courses
  • Educated to degree / NVQ 3 or 4 / APIOL. standard.
