Volunteer Trainee Instructor Scheme

 

Introduction

The Lochgoilhead Centre Trainee Instructor scheme gives you the opportunity to achieve qualifications in a variety of different outdoor sports both land and water based.  Gaining the qualifications on offer, coupled with on the job experience of working with many different client groups, will make you an attractive prospect to any future employers in the outdoor industry.  One year at The Lochgoilhead Centre will prepare you with the skills and qualifications needed for one of the most rewarding careers possible.

 

Who Are We Looking For?

  • 18-25 years of age
  • We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic individuals. 
  • We would expect applicants to have a basic knowledge of qualifications and how to achieve them
  • A reasonable skill level in at least one of the following
    1. Hill Navigation
    2. Kayaking/canoeing
    3. Sailing
    4. Mountain Biking
    5. Climbing
  • Not afraid of hard work, long days and lots of fun!

 

How is the year Broken up?

The trainee scheme 2008/09 is scheduled to start on November 17th 2008 and run to November 15th 2009.  The centre is shut from 19th Dec 2008 until 5th Jan 2009 for Christmas holidays.

 

Qualifications Achievable

The number of qualifications you can achieve is directly related to your performance, commitment and dedication to all elements of the trainee scheme.  A lot of the qualifications will involve you getting out and about in your spare time.  Below are the qualifications achievable whilst at The Lochgoilhead centre

  • HSE First Aid at Work
  • MLTS Mountain Leader Training
  • MLTS Single Pitch Award (SPA)
  • RYA Dinghy Instructor
  • UKCC Level 1 Coach (Kayak/Canoe)
  • SMBLA Trail Cycle Leader (training/assessment) or OTC Trail Leader
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • RYA Safety Boat Course
  • BOF Teacher Leader Level 1
  • GNAS Archery Leader
  • UKCC 3* Kayak
  • BCU Bell Boat Helm
  • RYA VHF Short Range Certificate
