Gwent Outdoor Education Service
Trainee Instructor Scheme
- Are you over 18?
- Are you interested in a career in Outdoor Education?
- Do you enjoy the challenge of working with young people?
- Do you already have an interest in one or more outdoor activities?
If so, a year's Trainee Instructor placement at the Gwent Outdoor Centres could be just the opportunity you need to get started in your career.
The placement begins in September 2009 and runs until July 2010. You will gain valuable experience working alongside our experienced outdoor staff team. We‚ll ensure you receive National Governing Body Award training and / or assessment in relevant activities, along with guidance to improve your skills. At the end of the year you will have gained valuable experience of Outdoor Education and a good knowledge of venues in South Wales and will be ready to move on to the next stage in your career.
In addition trainees have access to the OCN Level 3 course run by a partnership of outdoor centres across South Wales. This gives a good opportunity to mix with trainees from similar settings to arrange training and social activities.
During the year you will be provided with accommodation, food and most school holidays off. Should you gain enough experience and qualifications there is the potential opportunity to work as a fully paid instructor at the Centre. In return we‚ll expect you to act in a professional manner and to take every opportunity to make the most of your year.
