Chief Instructor - Outdoor Education Salary range: £17,161 - £19,126
Grafham Water Centre is an outdoor education centre for residential and day groups, located in rural Cambridgeshire and provides a range of adventurous activities for young people from schools and youth groups as well as adults and young people from the wider community. Grafham Water is a reservoir some three and a half miles long and a mile and a half wide. The Centre offers many activities including Sailing, Windsurfing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Climbing and Abseiling, Archery, High and Low Ropes Courses, Mountain Biking and Team Building.
The Centre is owned and operated by Cambridgeshire County Council but under local management. It operates as a traded service but the vision is clearly educational, being to “change young people’s lives - a journey into learning”, an aspiration, but one that we make achievable by working closely in partnership with a variety of local schools and bodies. The Centre has developed over the last few years with the investment of £3.5m in the building of a new indoor adventure hall, new accommodation block, new meeting rooms and refurbishment of existing facilities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced person to develop Outdoor Education activities across the partnership between Grafham Water Centre and Hinchingbrooke School involving partner schools and developing the number of involved schools. This will allow for the involvement and development of young people, and the wider community, as well as teachers and sports coaches.
A willingness to be involved in the broader life of the Centre and to develop our work is crucial.
