Trainee Instructor £50/week (increasing to £100/week upon development of experience and skills) plus food and accommodation
Scripture Union Scotland is a registered charity that aims to help all of Scotland’s children and young people explore the significance of Jesus Christ for their lives.
We currently have vacancies for 2 Trainee Instructors based at Lendrick Muir, near Kinross. Lendrick Muir is set in 120 acres with accommodation for 150 guests which regularly include school residential experiences and youth group weekends. We offer a range of outdoor activities to our guests, usually on-site, and use outdoor classroom concepts with schools to explore our grounds and the wildlife in them.
Working as part of the programme team you will be trained to lead activity sessions for our guests and to help maintain the activity equipment and infrastructure, in time taking responsibility for an area. During school residential experiences you will be involved in all aspects of caring for our guests including some evening work. Working closely with the Senior Instructor and Schools Programme Manager you will assist developing the range and quality of activities we offer, with an emphasis on relating these to the Curriculum for Excellence and core theme for the week Applicants for this post should have a desire to work with young people and have a demonstrated interest in outdoor activities. They should have some previous experience working with young people. Registration with a National Governing Body (NGB) award training scheme and a full UK Driving Licence would also be beneficial.
To gain the most from this post, applicants should be willing to commit to approximately 2 years, during which time we will support them developing their instructional and group work skills and in working towards NGB awards – climbing and trail cycling are often the first choice. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to SU Scotland’s ethos, working principles and vision. It is also a Genuine Occupational Requirement, in terms of the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003, that the post-holder demonstrates a personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
