2 Consultations from SkillsActive
(IOL plan to respond by December 8th – so if any members have comments please email director@outdoor-learning.org by the end of November please)
National Occupational Standards for the Exploration and Expeditions sub-sector
Higher Level National Occupational Standards (at levels 4 & 5)
You may recall that SkillsActive contacted you earlier this year with regards to Feasibility studies for the outdoors sector:
• National Occupational Standards for the Exploration and Expeditions sub-sector
• Higher Level National Occupational Standards (at levels 4 and 5)
Due to staff illness there has been some delay to the progress of this work and we can only apologise for the delay in the release of these consultations.
The expeditions and exploration sub-sector does not have any specific occupational standards relating to it. This has implications for workforce development in the broad sense and specifically for qualification development. The outdoors sector does have standards relating to occupations at levels 2 and 3, but there are currently no higher level standards at level 4 and 5.
These two feasibility studies aim to explore if there is a need to develop national occupational standards for exploration and expeditions, and at levels 4 and 5 for the outdoors sector. In producing the consultation documents we have considered the industry sub-sectors and related organisations, jobs, functions and the levels of capability required to operate successfully, both now and into the future, and we have also taken into account existing qualifications and standards.
To take part in the consultation and to help shape the future for the outdoor sector, please visit: http://www.skillsactive.com/promotionlist/outdoorspromotion
Instructions for completing and responding can be found on each ‘functional map and questionnaire’ document.
A press release can be found at: http://www.skillsactive.com/newsstore/news081106002
We would be more than pleased if you could share this news and email with your groups, associations and networks - we are keen to have as much sector input as possible in order to feed into the future direction of these two areas.
Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
With thanks and best regards,
