Starting salary: £18,413 FTE pro rata (depending on qualifications)
Start date: April 24th 2017
Contract: Permanent ( Eight or ten months of the year)


Our centre sits in beautiful countryside close to Llangollen.. Situated in the beautiful Dee Valley and with the stunning welsh coast all accessible and providing outstanding venues for our work with children. Part of the Wide Horizon’s Outdoor Education Trust, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience adventures as part of their education and development. Our aim is to is find and bring out the potential in the individuals who visit us, impacting positively upon their lives as they return home and to school.

We are looking for:
  • An enthusiastic and inspirational teacher with commitment and drive to do their best for the children
  • A team player, with excellent interpersonal skills
  • An individual who is passionate about sharing their love of the outdoors with young people
  • A learner and reflective practitioner keen to develop their own strengths and abilities
Qualified teacher status and a knowledge of the school curriculum (primary or secondary) would be advantageous although we welcome applications from excellent outdoor practitioners without QTS who meet the person specification.

Person Specification:
Experience of being successful in:
  • Teaching and delivery in a school or outdoor learning centre
  • Developing and delivering educational programmes specifically for school children linking outdoor learning landscapes and adventure to the national curriculum and school topics.
  • Experience of customer focused service delivery
  • Communicating clearly, written and orally
  • Working on your own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse customer group
  • Application of risk assessment and health and safety procedures

Essential Qualifications:

  • PCV or D1 driving license
  • Summer Mountain Leader award
  • Single pitch climbing award
  • BCU UKCC level 2
  • First aid certificate

Desirable Qualifications:
  • British Mountain Bike Coach level 1
  • Cave/Mine Leader level 1
  • QTS
  • British Canoeing four star leader (canoe)

Knowledge and Understanding:
  • Adventure and Outdoor Learning and the benefits to children and young people
  • Best practice and safety management in Adventure Learning
  • Equality and diversity in the workplace
  • A knowledge of the National Curriculum for England and Wales
  • Monitoring and evaluation techniques specifically related to the provision of outdoor education to children and young people.
