Event for students and newcomers - November 2016

The South West region is planning an event for students and those new to the industry to be held in November at the University of St Mark and St Johns in Plymouth.  There will be workshops and opportunities for networking.  We would like to invite you to attend this day to recruit new employees, freelancers or apprentices and to meet those entering into our industry before the 2017 season kicks off.  If this would be of interest to you please could you let me know and I will pass on further details in due course.

If you'd like to deliver a workshop then please also get in touch.  Or if you just have a good idea on how we could add value to the event for the benefit of everyone involved again just drop Cathy Harshaw an email.

2015 SW IOL Conference + AGM was held on November 14th

at The Mount Batten Centre, Plymouth

Storm Abigail provided dramatic effects for the South West Regional Conference at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth. Dressed for the conditions it was great to see so many delegates ready for a variety of workshops. There were presentations by Nigel Olsham who engaged delegates in CBT and Mindfulness, while Orlando Rutter braved the weather to find numbers in the outdoors. RuSlack battled the wind to give delegates a taste of slacklinning, showing just what a Land Rover should be used for. A hot lunch warmed the delegates and the room was buzzing with chat after a successful morning.

Following national updates and contributions from the floor, the afternoon workshops got underway with the beach schools practitioner Lisa Downing recreating a beach experience inside. Final networking occurred at the end of the day in the bar.

Adventure talk - a celebration of cycling

38 people in attendance for the first joint IOL and University of St Mark and St John's Adventure Talks.

Three interesting and engaging talks left the audience inspired with discussions of 'I'd like to....' And 'What if'. .... afterwards.

Many took advantage of trying the electric cargo bikes,  cycling them round the quad in the dark!

An enjoyable evening had by all,  the next event scheduled for the 8th of February. More details soon.

Applicants will be asked to show that they are ready to benefit from the RP or AP process, that they will be or are willing to have active involvement with IOL regionally, and that they would otherwise bear the full cost of gaining RP or AP. We also need to be satisfied that the applicants are likely to complete the process. Applications will be considered by nominated representatives of the regional committee.
